Money & Jesus
My learnings on building financial foundations on the Word of God.
False Piety
“Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it. - John 12:5-6 ESV
Ok To Judge
It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning. - 1 Corinthians 5:12 NLT
Poor and Rich
Better a poor man who lives with integrity than a rich man who distorts right and wrong. - Proverbs 28:6 HCSB
Perversion of Justice
If you see oppression of the poor and perversion of justice and righteousness in the province, don’t be astonished at the situation, because one official protects another official, and higher officials protect them. - Ecclesiastes 5:8 HCSB
Deadly Trap
Wealth created by a lying tongue is a vanishing mist and a deadly trap. - Proverbs 21:6 NLT
An Abomination
Unequal weights and unequal measures are both alike an abomination to the Lord. - Proverbs 20:10 ESV
Evil Ambitions
They gave him seventy silver coins from the temple of Baal-berith, which he used to hire some reckless troublemakers who agreed to follow him. He went to his father’s home at Ophrah, and there, on one stone, they killed all seventy of his half brothers, the sons of Gideon. But the youngest brother, Jotham, escaped and hid. - Judges 9:4-5 NLT
Bad Influences
My son, if sinners entice you, don’t be persuaded. If they say—“Come with us! Let’s set an ambush and kill someone. Let’s attack some innocent person just for fun! Let’s swallow them alive, like Sheol, still healthy as they go down to the Pit. We’ll find all kinds of valuable property and fill our houses with plunder. Throw in your lot with us, and we’ll all share our money”— Proverbs 1:10-14 HCSB
Weep & Howl
Come now, you rich people! Weep and wail over the miseries that are coming on you. Your wealth is ruined and your clothes are moth-eaten. - James 5:1-2 HCSB
Shrewd Manager
“The rich man had to admire the dishonest rascal for being so shrewd. And it is true that the children of this world are more shrewd in dealing with the world around them than are the children of the light. Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home. - Luke 16:8-9 NLT
Faithful Stewardship
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? - Luke 16:10-11 ESV
False Teachers
What sorrow awaits them! For they follow in the footsteps of Cain, who killed his brother. Like Balaam, they deceive people for money. And like Korah, they perish in their rebellion. - Jude 1:11 NLT
Can’t Save
You will eat but never have enough. Your hunger pangs and emptiness will remain. And though you try to save your money, it will come to nothing in the end. You will save a little, but I will give it to those who conquer you. - Micah 6:14 NLT
Sorrow Awaits
“What sorrow awaits you who build big houses with money gained dishonestly! You believe your wealth will buy security, putting your family’s nest beyond the reach of danger. But by the murders you committed, you have shamed your name and forfeited your lives. - Habakkuk 2:9-10 NLT
Bribes Blind
“Take no bribes, for a bribe makes you ignore something that you clearly see. A bribe makes even a righteous person twist the truth. - Exodus 23:8 NLT
I am Content
Better to have little, with godliness, than to be rich and dishonest. - Proverbs 16:8 NLT
Should I Tithe?
Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! - Malachi 3:10 NLT
