Plundered

12 “I will search with lanterns in Jerusalem’s darkest corners to punish those who sit complacent in their sins. They think the Lord will do nothing to them, either good or bad. 13 So their property will be plundered, their homes will be ransacked. They will build new homes but never live in them. They will plant vineyards but never drink wine from them. 14 “That terrible day of the Lord is near. Swiftly it comes— a day of bitter tears, a day when even strong men will cry out.

Zephaniah 1:12-14 NLT

In these verses Zephaniah describes the coming judgment of Judah for breaking covenant with the Lord. As Christians I think that sometimes we forget that there are consequences for our sins, even though we are forgiven for our sins.

In verse 12 we see two things:

  1. God sees all our sins

  2. The people didn't think the Lord would do anything to them because of their sins

However, in verse 13 God allowed them to be plundered. They couldn't even enjoy their new homes, or wine from their vineyards. The main issue was that Judah was complacent in their sins. Let's not be like them in this regard. If there is sin in our lives we ought to repent today.
