Poverty Nor Wealth

Two things I ask of You; don’t deny them to me before I die: Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me. Give me neither poverty nor wealth; feed me with the food I need. Otherwise, I might have too much and deny You, saying, “Who is the Lord? ” or I might have nothing and steal, profaning the name of my God.

Proverbs 30:7‭-‬9 HCSB

In these verses Agur was asking the Lord to keep him from temptations that he presumably wrestled with. What temptations do you wrestle with? We all wrestle with things, and we ought to set them before God in prayer.

I think many people understand his request to never tell a lie, but "give me just enough to satisfy my needs"? Agur realized that poverty and riches had the ability to draw his attention away from the Lord. It's in all of our best interests to remove anything in our lives that negatively impacts our relationship with Jesus.
