Canceled Debt

40 And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.” 41 “A certain moneylender had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 When they could not pay, he cancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled the larger debt.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.

Luke 7:40-43 ESV

The borrower is slave of the lender (Proverbs 22:7b ESV). I touched on this yesterday. We shouldn't give loans unless we'd be ok with never getting repaid. Money isn't worth losing relationships over, in so far as it’s up to you. In some instances cancelling a debt may be the right decision. In many ways the larger the debt canceled, the greater the mercy shown. Let's remember to use money as an opportunity to show the light of Christ.
