Joyfully and Willingly

17 I know, my God, that You test the heart and that You are pleased with what is right. I have willingly given all these things with an upright heart, and now I have seen Your people who are present here giving joyfully and willingly to You. 18 Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, keep this desire forever in the thoughts of the hearts of Your people, and confirm their hearts toward You.

1 Chronicles 29:17-18 HCSB

The last two days I've shared verses from this chapter. Previously we looked at how God is the owner of everything, and how all that we have comes from Him; so when we give, we're actually giving that which isn't our own. Even so, how we give matters to God. For God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7 ESV).

In this prayer David tells us that not only he gave with an upright heart, but also all those who were present with him. David then goes further and asks that God would keep this desire in their hearts forever (because we all know how fickle feelings can be).
